Aakash Chopra Urges India to Open with Vaibhav Suryavanshi Against New Zealand
Aakash Chopra has urged India to reconsider Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s batting position ahead of the third T20 against New Zealand on October 27. Find out why the former cricketer believes opening the innings could be crucial for the youngster.
During an analysis on his YouTube channel, Chopra said that young players like Suryavanshi have no shortage of talent but need the right environment and batting order to establish themselves at the international or higher levels of the game.
Chopra stressed that putting excessive pressure on young players or assigning them a batting position in which they feel uncomfortable could hamper their development. According to him, selectors and team management must ensure that young talent is utilised effectively, allowing players to express themselves naturally without additional mental pressure.
Speaking further about Suryavanshi, Chopra noted that the youngster has consistently made an impression with his batting in the Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he pointed out that maintaining the same rhythm with the bat in every match is difficult for any batter. He advised the Indian team management against rushing the young player’s development.
Continuing his assessment, Chopra suggested that Suryavanshi should be given the opportunity to open the innings in the upcoming matches. He said the team would not get a better opportunity to test him in that role.
Chopra also pointed out that Suryavanshi has been batting only in the nets since being included in the team. He questioned how the youngster could find his form without getting the opportunity to bat in actual matches.
With the third T20I against New Zealand scheduled for October 27, Chopra’s remarks have brought renewed attention to Suryavanshi’s batting position and the importance of giving the young batter opportunities to demonstrate his abilities in competitive matches.
